The Spring or Vernal Equinox takes place today, March 20th at 3:45PM Pacific Time. This equinox occurs when the sun is directly over the equator and day and night are equal lengths. It marks the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and until the summer solstice, which occurs around June 21st, the days will continue to get longer and the nights shorter.
The Equinox is a time when many cultures celebrate new beginnings. There are multiple cultural and religious holidays scheduled around this time such as Passover, Easter, Iranian New Year, and Earth Day to name just a few.
From a personal perspective, all of the solstices and equinoxes are great times to let go of what is no longer serving us and to strive to cultivate what will serve us better going forward. At this point, I like to review how I’m doing in relation to the intentions I set around the winter solstice, notice how I can refocus to stay on track if I have strayed, and to acknowledge my successes in working towards achieving my goals. Since spring is a more active time of year than the winter time, and summer, the most active time of year is on its way, I like to set concrete goals in relationship to career and finances, goals that require clear and defined action to achieve them. This is a great time to plant the proverbial seeds that you would like to harvest in the fall.
Spring is also a fantastic time for spring cleaning, clearing out all of the old to make room for the new. This can be done on many levels. On a more physical level, cleaning house, getting rid of clutter or cleaning out your closets are a good example. Doing a spring cleanse for your body can be really helpful to reset your system and invite renewed health and vitality. It is also a good time to think about relationships and activities that may no longer be serving you and letting those go. When you clear out the old, you make space for the new.
If you look at your life and it’s not overflowing with joy and love, it might be an indication that its time to let go and open up space for that which will bring more joy and love to your life. When you do let go of something or someone, ask yourself for whom or for what you are opening that space in your life. Also determine what having that will do for you. What experience or emotion will it create for you or what will having it let you know about yourself? Uncovering the desire underneath the desire can really help your manifestations. Ultimately when we want a specific thing or experience, what we really want is the feeling it will give us. What feelings are you longing for this season?
